How do I trade in shares?

STEP ONE: Register online for a new trading account and PSG web profile.

STEP TWO: If you are a new client, send us your FICA documents. We will open your online trading account within 72 hours of receiving these.

STEP THREE: Log in to your account, using your username and password.

STEP FOUR: Choose your account and place an order through the 'New Order' screen.

What banking details do I use?

Login to access the banking details relevant to your account.

Please note that the banking details for South African residents are different to those for traders who do not live in South Africa and do not have a South African ID. In addition, please note that cheque deposits are not accepted on either of these accounts.

Online investor

Receive a fully functional BDA (Broker Dealer Account) with access to 15 minute delayed JSE prices.


The monthly admin fee is waived for each month during which you trade three or more times on your equity account
Live prices (optional) Access to live prices, which will enable you to view price movements as they happen. This is an ideal tool for day traders. R100.00

Securities Transfer Tax (STT)

0.25% on the value of share traded, but is levied only on share purchases

Dividend Withholding Tax (DWT)

Dividend tax legislation requires that 20% of dividends payments are withheld by withholding agents who will then pay the tax to SARS. PSG Securities is an authorised agent

Notes to the fees:

  • If you trade more than 12 times a month we invite you to contact our Dealing Desk to see whether you qualify for a lower brokerage rate. Call +27(11) 996 5200
  • Please note that if an order takes more than one day to implement, clients will be charged brokerage for each day's trade. Therefore, if shares are sold on both Monday and Tuesday, there will be two brokerage amounts owing (as per the fee schedule above) even if the two trades are part of the same order. If both trades occur on the same day there will only be one brokerage amount for the deal.
  • Interest on cash balances in the account will be paid at the JSE Trustees rate.
