Finding your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Rain is synonymous with rainbows and one is sometimes fortunate to experience this beautiful display in nature. Rainbows appear when the sun’s light reflects through floating water droplets in the air when the rain clouds clear away. The colours of the rainbow have been the topic of many discussions. In 1660, Isaac Newton started experimenting with sunlight and prisms. He allowed a beam of sunlight to pass through a prism and the beam spread out into coloured bands of light which he named a spectrum. The white light had split into seven visible colours, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

There are many myths and legends involving rainbows. For some it is a symbol of hope and renewal. Others believe that you will find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The only challenge is that there is no real end to a rainbow. It is not something tangible that exists in a particular place, but is an optical phenomenon, which can only be enjoyed with your eyes.
