In this edition of The Wealth Perspective our chief investment officer, Adriaan Pask, reminds us that markets are never stagnant, and just as deep roots never doubt that spring will come, investors should never doubt that markets will turn. Head of Sales Nirdev Desai borrows from the African proverb that says “if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to far, go together”, which exemplifies an investor’s relationship with their adviser as there's a better chance of realising financial freedom with an expert on one’s side. Our Head of Securities, Wendy Myers, talks about the importance of including securities in an investment portfolio to create a lasting legacy and Head of Actuarial and Product Jan van der Merwe delves into the details of a cash account, including what it offers and how to take advantage of it. Mariska Redelinghuys breaks down the steps involved in setting up a trust to establish a lasting family legacy before Robyn Laubscher rounds off this quarter's edition by explaining the importance of scrutinising one’s statements to check if one’s benefits still meet one’s needs.

“ Part of your heritage in this society is the opportunity to be financially independent. ”
After much fanfare and speculation by some, the BRICS summit finally took place without a glitch, much to everyone’s relief. Even loadshedding seemed to toe the line and didn’t plunge the country into desperate long hours of darkness.
For a few short days we were lulled into almost forgetting about our energy woes, but no sooner had our guests departed than we were back to regular programming and the dreadful stage six loadshedding made its unwanted return.
Whilst it is true to say that we face our fair share of hurdles on the local front, there’s some comfort in knowing that we’re not alone. Global markets are facing similar challenges and limping along, and even the mighty Chinese economy seems to be stagnating. Across the pond, the Fed’s decision on interest rates was anticipated with bated breath. The decision that these would remain unchanged was not what most had hoped for, and it was a call that was met with disappointment in most quarters.
On the subject of interest rates, I’m excited by the launch of our new cash account, which you can read more about in Jan’s article. Having a cash facility can be a prudent decision for investors weighing their options in uncertain times and waiting for more favourable market conditions. It is an undeniable truth that markets, like the seasons, will turn. Ours is to have the discipline to keep our heads down and wait for the tides to change.
Despite the challenges we face as a country, our local economy, has managed (albeit by the skin of its teeth) to avoid a technical recession, which speaks to the inspiring resilience of the people of our nation –a fitting tribute with Heritage Day still fresh in the memory. The improved inflation numbers and somewhat improved employment numbers also put a spring in the step, and the warmer temperatures don’t hurt either!
Jim Rhon said it best when he said that “part of your heritage in this society is the opportunity to be financially independent”, and in this quarter’s edition we’ve put together a wealth of information that we believe will go a long way towards equipping you to realise the dream of leaving a financial legacy you can be proud of.
Wherever you are on your investment journey, our qualified advisers are here to help you navigate the cyclical nature of the markets and achieve your desired financial outcomes.
